Long Vowels - CVCe

This page is a work in progress. I will be adding more games and resources as I find them. Please be sure to come back and visit soon!

Missing Letters

I learned this game at the Teach Your Heart Out virtual conference in January 2021 from @polka.dots.please. It was such a simple, yet effective, game that you could use with other long vowel patterns. However, I have only used it (so far) with CVCe. My Littles were working on Sneaky Silent E and I thought this would be a great game for them to practice. We only used long /a/ here, but it could easily be switched out. The idea of the game is to tape down the vowel and /e/ ahead of time. My Littles then switched out the first and third sounds to create CVCe words. As always, I had them write down the words they came up within a specific time frame. I couldn't find a link to the word cards she provided for us at the conference.

Long Vowel Dice Roll

Do you remember those dice I showed you from Dollar Tree? Well, I made a game. Shocker, I know! My Littles were struggling with the different long /i/ patterns, so I thought this might help them out. I did add a little dry erase tape to the blocks because sometimes dry erase marker is tough to get off these dice. On the green dice, I wrote all the different long /i/ patterns. The blue dice were full of consonants. We played the game just like Yahtzee! They rolled all five dice on the table and then had to try and create words based on the blocks they had. As an added bonus, they had to write the words they made on white boards. You'll notice two columns. One column has the word spelled correctly and the other column shows a word using the long /i/ sound, but isn't necessarily spelled correctly. It was a hit with my Littles, so I think I'll be playing again soon!
