Addition
I will be working with my Littles on addition for the next several weeks. Be sure to check back weekly for the new ideas and games I use in my classroom!
Until the next time,
PopIt Addition
The First Grade teacher is using this game as part of her weekly Math Centers. She did borrow it from me, but I haven't personally used it, so I wanted to give her a shout out!
This summer I found PopIts in Bullseye's Playground, but the rainbow ones were a fall addition. I wanted to dab in the PopIt world, so I bought a math bundle off Teachers Pay Teachers. The First Grade teacher actually showed me how she uses the cards in her Math centers. She has her Firsties pop the first number of the number sentence and then pop the second number in a different color. Then, they can count how many bubbles are popped total to find the answer. I'm sure there are different ways to use the PopIts, but this way works for her. Most importantly, her Firsties love it!
Fact Family House
My Firstie has gotten the hang of addition and subtraction, but putting them all together is still a bit tricky. So I created this Fact Family House to help her with getting all the facts correct.
I flipped over two (2) cards and she had to figure out where they went in the house. Notice that I used primary colors and what they make when put together. I think this created a great visual for her because she knew that yellow + red = orange. I had her write out all her facts before moving on to the next set of cards.
Make sure you check out the monthly pages for more addition activities! I have created games specific to certain months and holidays!
