March Madness

This was my first monthly theme idea. I had seen on so many different TeacherGram pages how they were incorporating the tournament into their classrooms that I had to play along. Piece of advice...when you first see the basketball baskets out at Dollar Tree...pick them up!! I waited and had to search every Dollar Tree I could think of to find what I needed.

If you have any questions or need to bounce an idea off on someone, feel free to email me at apocketfullofresources@gmail.com.

Roll and Score

My Littles were reviewing their short vowel sounds for this game. I found the dry erase dice in Bullseye's Playground a few years back. They aren't the best dry erase, but they work when I need them. For Roll and Score, my Littles had to roll both dice and put them together to create a word. If they created a word, they scored two points. If they created a nonsense word, they scored one point. They wrote the word they made on the basketballs I made to add to their basket. We counted points at the end of the game. I probably should have mentioned before, but if all my students work hard during their session with me, they all get a prize. I don't have winners and losers in my room. As long as you do your very best, you are always a winner in my room! These are the baskets I mentioned above. They usually come out in February. Grab them while you can! They go fast!

Swish! - CVC Words

We had so much fun playing Swish! I bought this game off Teachers Pay Teachers and will link it below. For this game, I printed, laminated, and cut out all the basketballs. They have CVC words on the flip side. We took turns choosing and reading the word on each basketball. If the word was read correctly, my Littles put it in their basket. If they chose a Swish! card, the Little chose two more basketballs to read. If they chose a Penalty card, the Little had to dump out their entire basket.

Shootin' Sentences

One of my Littles asked to work on building sentences. Your wish is my command. I used some of the basketballs and wrote words on each card. I put different sentences around my room and my Little had to unscramble each sentence and write it correctly on the white board. I used words from their Spelling list to help create the sentences. I'd say my Little did pretty well with this activity!

Dunk It Dominoes!

Another Teachers Pay Teachers find for a Little who needed a little extra addition practice. We took turns turning over dominoes and placing them on the answer sheet. After writing the number sentence and answering it correctly, my Little dunked the domino in the correct basket. Click the link below to get your copy!
