Hello!

Thanks for joining my little corner of the world. I'm Amy, the creator of A Pocket Full of Resources. At my school, I am the guru of all things: intervention, resource, professional development. You name it, I dab in it. I wanted to create a place where I can share my ideas, or ideas I've found from other teachers, with you to take back to your own classroom. Please feel free to adapt anything to make it work for you!

A Little About Me...

I grew up on a family farm in Southern Illinois. My mom was a teacher for 40 years, at least 25 as a First Grade teacher. My dad owns his own chemical and fertilizer company, as well as a propane company. Even though I would never admit it when I was younger, I always wanted to be a teacher. I honestly can't imagine myself doing anything else. I attended Southeast Missouri State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education in 2008. After being a Third Grade teacher for four years, I decided it was time for a change. I packed my bags and dogs {two of them} and headed to a new area in MetroEast St. Louis. I took a job as a PreK teacher. I swore I would NEVER teach Prekinders, but here I was, starting a new adventure. This is where my love for teaching outside the box truly blossomed. You see, the curriculum for my PreK students did not allow me to copy any worksheets. Yeah, I know...it was a struggle at first. But then I started frequenting the local Dollar Tree, and the rest, they say, is history...

After six years of teaching PreK, I decided to go back to school to get my Masters degree in Special Education. I graduated in 2019 with a Masters of Arts degree in Exceptional Child: Mild-to-Moderate, Cross-Curricular. Basically, I can teach Special Education to mild cases K-12. That same year, I was offered my dream position: Learning Consultant at my school. In the St. Louis Catholic school system, the Learning Consultant is the SPED teacher, but also so much more. My dream was becoming a reality...

After being the Learning Consultant for three years, I decided it was time to make the big move to public school. In August 2022, I will start my greatest, yet most rewarding, challenge. I am teaching K-3 Special Education. I am very excited to finally turn my dream into that reality I've wanted for so long. I can't wait to share my journey with you!

Outside of school, my other love is powerlifting. Yes, I pick up heavy things - current PR is 350 :). This is my Amy time. It also helps let go of those stressful days that everyone in education is dealing with right now. {Seriously, y'all, mental health is important. Find yourself an outlet. It helps. Trust me.}

I'm also a proud DogMom. I love my girls {Josie and Lucie} to the Moon and back. They are my family, my entire world.
